The 30-second website test

In half a minute, a visitor should know what you do, who it is for, and what to do next.

Open the site on a phone. Do not scroll yet. Can a stranger say what the organisation offers? Can they see the city, the price range, or the service times if those are what people ask? Is there one obvious next step?

If the answer is no, the problem is usually hierarchy, not a missing plugin. The headline is doing the work of a slogan instead of an explanation. The buttons compete. The facts people ask for live three taps down.

We use this test before talking about visual refresh. A clearer first screen often outperforms a redesign that keeps the same confusion.
