The best first automation is a chore people already resent.
Every quarter, someone walks paper forms around a building. Every enquiry, someone copies a name into a notebook. Every week, someone retypes the same announcement into three chats. Those loops are the brief.
Automation does not start with a model. It starts with the steps, the roles, and the output someone already expects — a pack of reports, a confirmation, a queue. Software can collect, remind, and compile. A person still decides the exception.
If the repeated work is rare or political, leave it. If it is weekly and mechanical, it is a candidate.
